It has been approximately two months since we learned of BKS Iyengar's passing. Born December 14, 1918 and having practiced and taught yoga for more than 60 years, Iyengar will be forever remembered for bringing yoga to the West, as well as his systematization of more than 200 poses and 14 breathing practices.
The sparks of inspiration that blazed in the light of his life now shine collectively, embers that glow with his rich legacy. They shine within every student that was touched by his light, both those who studied with him directly and those who call his students their teachers.
And the cycle continues. Future generations of teachers and students will be touched by his light and will find their paths enlightened and illuminated by his many lessons. His glowing works are now whole and complete, and ours are yet to finish. In his honor, take a moment to reflect on the sparks of your own life. What will your collective light reveal to others, once your blaze has settled and the embers have cooled?
